Safe Space
2025

In conversation with loved ones, this series explores the varied and shifting perceptions we each hold surrounding safety. Through these dialogues, I seek to interrogate the rigid definitions of safety prescribed to us by prisons and policing.

In collaboration with each speaker, I compiled photos of spaces and items that evoked a sense of comfort. For some, this imagery was tangible and specific, for others, it was entirely emotional. Each image was then converted into a constellation of dots using Pointillist, softening and abstracting areas of each photo.

I encourage viewers to open the books alongside one another, comparing each voice to their own. As safety becomes more abstract and elusive, I hope to create a space in which we can reflect on our own somatic, social, and collective wellbeings.
